The Management Information Systems (MIS) program at Georgia College & State University develops in-depth hands-on knowledge and skills in the application of information technology to problems and opportunities in business and society.

Our Concentrations

Data Analytics Concentration

Students in this concentration pick CBIS 4140 Enterprise Performance Management as their capstone course. Data Analytics explores data visualization and predictive analytics. Students often work in consulting roles as well as analyzing data. The three courses that make up this concentration are CBIS 3120 Introduction to ERP, CBIS 4120 Business Intelligence & Analytics, and CBIS 4140 Enterprise Performance Management Systems. Students may take a data mining elective for more knowledge in this area.

Degree Requirements

Information Technology Concentration

Students in this concentration take CBIS 4218 Advanced Networking as their capstone course. The Information Technology concentration prepares students for IT support, networking, and/or server administration. All students take CBIS 3213 Introduction to Information Technology and CBIS 4218 Advanced Networking. Students select one of these courses to complete their concentration: CBIS 3211 Information Technology Hardware & Software; CBIS 4217 Computer Security; or CBIS 4225 Server Administration. The two not selected may be taken as a general elective.

Degree Requirements

Web Developent Concentration

Students in this concentration take CBIS 4214 Web Application Integration as their capstone course along with taking CBIS 4210 Business Application Development. Students typically are employed as web masters Students pick one of these to complete their concentration: One of the following: CBIS 3218 Web Design Tools, CBIS 3219 Web Development, or CBIS 4216 Advanced Web Application Integration. Students in this area are strongly encouraged to minor in computer science to get more programming experience.

  • Students in our program get hands-on experience with technologies such as SAP, PowerBI, Tableau, PHP, SQL Server, and LabSim.
  • Go beyond the classroom by completing an internship. Students taking CBIS 4605, CSCI 2960, CSCI 4960, or MMIS 6805 can request from the department chair or faculty internship coordinator to use an upcoming internship as academic credit for one of these courses.
  • In addition to our concentrations above, you can choose to add a business oriented concentration to your degree. Students can choose from Logistics and Transportation, Human Resources Management, or Sales as optional concentrations.
